Summary:
There are multiple ways of updating WAVE VMS. WAVE may have a few patch releases in between the official releases but the software will not automatically update to the patch version. You can easily update the software by following the steps below.
Step by Step Guide:
- Before performing any update, always backup your system and export your licenses
- When the client or server is not the same version, you are prompted to run in compatibility mode.
In-Client Upgrade Method:
- Make sure to get the build number and password from the Release Notes Page or a support agent:
- Open the WAVE application from your server or client pc and select System Administration... from the "hamburger" menu (
) located in the top left corner of the interface.
- Go to the Updates tab and select Update to Specific Build:
- Enter the Version number and Password obtained in step 1, then click Select Version:
- Select Download. This will begin the download of the selected software.
- Select Install Update:
- When the update is complete, it will restart the WAVE MediaServer process and the Client interface:
Offline Update Method:

Be sure to download the updated file from a workstation with an internet connection by following steps 1-4 above.
- Click Get Update File and Download in External Browser:
- This will download a .zip file to your browser's Downloads directory. Copy this to a USB stick.
- Once downloaded, bring the USB stick to the offline (not on the internet) system.
- Open the WAVE Client and navigate to System Administration ->Updates ->Specific Build and choose Browse for Update File:

Select the .zip file in your Downloads directory:
- Select Upload:
- Select Install update:
- The installation will begin. When the update is complete, it will restart the WAVE MediaServer process and the Client interface:
SINGLE SERVER SYSTEMS
Single server systems are systems that have only one instance of the WAVE media server application running. You can update the system with either of the methods explained above.
To Upgrade: Download the WAVE server-only installation package for your device's operating system from https://wavevms.com/ and follow the installation wizard. This will upgrade the software in place.
MULTIPLE SERVER SYSTEMS (Merged Systems)
Simply follow the steps above. Each server in the system will be updated and the media server will be restarted. Wait for all of the servers to complete installation and verify the status. The client will also be updated to the latest version. Once the update is complete, the client will restart with the new version. You can then check the version of each server. All clients will be prompted to update their software to the latest version the next time they connect to the system.
