Issue Summary
A memory leak issue has been detected with WAVE Client 5.1 when running on WAVE Windows Servers, specifically models WRT-P-5201W and WRT-P-3101W or newer that are equipped with 11th to 13th generation Intel UHD 730 and 770 on-board graphics. This problem arises because of the automatic updates applied to your Windows system.
Although it is not recommended to run the WAVE Client on the WAVE Server, it is possible. However, the client software will consume the memory and exhaust system resource, which will cause cause the client to crash and the media server process to terminate. To restore functionality, restart the media server process and re-open the client. This article provides the steps to resolve this issue.
Resolution
Currently, the workaround is to downgrade the graphics driver and prevent driver updates through Windows Updates.
NOTE: Your system will require a restart after installing this update.
Downgrading the Graphics Driver
To downgrade the graphics driver:
- Download the driver from our server and extract the contents to a local folder.
- Navigate to the folder where you extracted the contents of the Dell Update Package and double-click Installer to begin installation.
You will be given the option to overwrite the currently installed driver.
Preventing Driver Updates
To preventing automatic driver updates in Windows 10:
- Click the Windows key + R to open the Run command window.
- Enter gpedit.msc then click OK to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
- Select Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.
- On the right side, double-click Do not include drivers with Windows Updates.
- Select the Enabled radio button then click Apply > OK.
After applying this policy, the Windows Update will stop providing drivers during updates.
