Summary
This article explains the steps to set up an IVA, such as loitering to trigger a strobe and send an HTTP request from the WAVE VMS using a Hanwha camera, such as the XNF-9013RV.
Preparing the Equipment
Gather and set up the following equipment as shown in the picture below.

Setting up the Equipment
Power the Relay
To power the relay:
- Wire the 12V Power Supply to the relay.
- Confirm that positive goes to positive and negative goes to negative on the relay.
Camera to Relay
To connect the camera to the relay:
- Wire the Blue wire from the camera to the In or trigger of the relay.
- Wire the Black wire from the camera to DC- (Negative) of the relay.
NOTE: Depending on the sensitivity of the Relay – this may require a small resistor
between the negative from the camera to the relay.
Strobe to Relay
To connect the strobe to the relay:
- Complete the circuit to the strobe to receive power.
- Wire the positive wire from the strobe to the positive (DC+) of the relay.
- Wire the negative wire from the strobe to the NO (Normally Open) on the relay.
- Using a separate wire, wire the DC- to the COM terminal. This is required to compete the circuit when the relay switched after being triggered.
Setting up the Alarm Output and Event
To set up the alarm output and event:
- Navigate to the camera GUI.
- Verify that the camera is on latest firmware. For this example, the XNF-9013RV is on firmware 2.23.03.
- Navigate to Event, and select Alarm I/O.
-
Select I/O 1 and set it to Output.
-
Click Apply.
-
Select NO (Normal Open) for I/O 1 Type.
-
Navigate to the Analytics, and select IVA.
-
Select the checkbox by Enable IVA.
- Select Virtual Area tab. In this example, we selected Person as the object to detect.
- Enable Loitering and set the required minimum Duration. For this example, it is set to 4 seconds. In this example, we created one Area by dragging the mouse.
- Navigate to Event, then select Event Rule > Add to add a new rule.
- Create a rule to trigger the alarm output from IVA. Additional actions can be specified, such as handover (to send HTTP events from the camera) or playing an audio clip.
Setting up a Loitering Alarm in WAVE Camera Events
To set up a loitering alarm:
- Log in to WAVE VMS. Navigate to the Event Rules menu.
- Add a record, setting the Event input to Analytics Event, select the camera, and select the event type, such as Loitering in this example.
- For Action, select the desired action, such as playing a sound file, creating a bookmark, or sending an HTTP request to a device.
