Occupancy is the difference between the number of people that have entered a space, and the number that have left. For example, if a store opens at 9 AM, then by 10 AM 100 people have entered and 85 have left, the current occupancy is 15.
SightMind tracks occupancy in real time and summarizes the statistics by the hour, or by the day. And because SightMind is cloud-based, it can combine multiple entrances and exits for an accurate occupancy count. This article details configuring occupancy in SightMind.
Configuring Occupancy in the Camera
To configure occupancy in the camera, complete these steps.
- Open the Webviewer.
- Select WiseAI > Analytics.
- Select People crossing to configure a people-crossing line by selecting a location, clicking, and pulling down the cursor. The line is oriented to count people entering as coming IN, and people leaving as going OUT.
In the image below, IN is configured as left to right, and we can see that two people have passed IN, and 10 have passed OUT since the stats were last reset, which is typically midnight.
Configuring Occupancy in SightMind
To configure occupancy in SightMind:
- Create a new widget (see help article: SightMind: How do I use widgets?).
- Select People occupancy.
- Select the 1x1 style, or for more information, select the 2x1 style.

Select the format for the basic information that will appear on the left, and the format for the extended information if you have selected 2x1.

Select the rule, which means selecting one or more cameras that have a People Crossing line enabled.
- Enter the target occupancy.
Interpreting the SightMind Charts
This section details how to interpret and parse the SightMind charts.
The People Counting chart shows the number of people whole walked IN each hour. In the example shown, the first 3 hours are 1, 28, 35, and 82 people.
The People Flow chart contrasts the number of people who walked IN and OUT each hour. In the example shown, the first 3 hours for IN are 1, 28, 35, and 82 people. For OUT, the stats are 1, 17, 36, and 44 people.
The Store Occupancy chart shows the net number of people currently in the space. In the example shown, the first three values are 0, 11, 10, and 48.
The table below shows the hourly breakdown.

When configuring the widget, you can specify an optional target. In this example, the target is 45, which is why any hours below the target are highlighted in red (see two variations below).
The following are charts highlighting times when occupancy was below the target of 45 people.
Adjusting to Longer Timescales
When viewing the stats for a single day, the chart shows hourly numbers. If you select a longer timeframe, such as the last month, SightMind automatically adjusts to daily summaries. This is effective to focus on slow days.
SightMind automatically adjusts to show average daily (instead of hourly) occupancy when you select a longer date window, such as the last 7 days or longer.
