Summary
This article provides information on how to attach an Edge Recording license and a cloud backup license to an OnCloud camera.
NOTE: You must use OnCloud to add a new license. You cannot add or attach a
new license through the Cloud Portal license management interface.
Attaching an Edge License
Before starting the steps in this article, follow the instructions in OnCloud: How do I license my cameras? to add the license to the organization.
To attach a license:
- In OnCloud, click the Building icon in the top right to start your dashboard.
- Navigate to the device list and locate the device to license.
- In the Devices section, click Manage.
- Click anywhere in the white space to go to the device settings.
- Click Licenses > Attach New License.

Scroll to find the type of license to attach. The list can include two types of licenses:
Cloud Licenses, which include information about retention length
Edge Recording Licenses
NOTE: Depending on the organization, you may see only one type, or a mix of both. - Select the license type from the drop-down, select the specific license, and click Confirm.
NOTE: Confirm the activation date is your desired start date.
This is typically the same day. - Click Confirm.
The camera Licenses page shows the attached Edge Recording license.
Attaching a Cloud Backup License
A cloud backup license can be attached to an Edge Recording device to extend the cloud backup retention period.
To attach a Cloud backup license:
- Follow steps 1-5 in Attaching an Edge License.
- Select the radio button for the Cloud Backup License and click Continue.
- Select a specific license to attach from the backup license drop-down menu.
- Confirm that the License Activation Date is your desired start date, and click Confirm.
The attached Edge Recording license appears in the Licenses page..
