Summary
Accounts are used to control access to OnCloud cameras and to keep a record of certain actions taken in OnCloud, such as downloading video or creating an incident. OnCloud uses Roles to determine which permissions a User has and uses Areas to determine which cameras a User may view.
NOTE: For more information about creating Incidents, see OnCloud: How do
I create an incident?
OnCloud includes two default roles: Admin and User. The below table describes the functions within OnCloud that can be performed by each role.
OnCloud offers the flexibility for Admins to create custom roles, which allows for more granular management of user access within the system.
This article instructs how to create and manage custom roles.
Creating a Custom Role
To create a custom role:
- Access the Organization Dashboard.
- Select Manage in the roles section of the Dashboard.
-
Follow the instructions in OnCloud: How do I create custom roles? to complete set up of the custom role.
NOTE: The custom role may be assigned to both existing and new OnCloud user accounts.
Creating Accounts
To create and manage user accounts:
- Access the Organization Dashboard.
- Select Manage.
The Users tile on the dashboard provides a summary of the Users in the Organization.
-
Select Add User.
-
Enter the user’s information, assign a role, and enable or disable the user’s ability to share video clips with users external to their OnCloud organization.
NOTE: Disabling video sharing does not prevent a user from downloading the video and
sharing it through other means.Email address is used to uniquely identify the account and is used by the User to log into OnCloud.
NOTE: If a role other than Admin is assigned to the user, then an option to Assign
Locations & Areas is available. This allows administrators to restrict access to
Camera’s that are grouped within a specific Area. By default, a user has access to
all Locations and areas of the Organization. An email is sent to the User’s email address. The email guides the user through the process of setting their password and logging into OnCloud. Once the process is complete, the account record status moves from Pending Activation to Active.
